Sober Living

Dunn patio, pond

Friends of Choices operates a sober living home for men in the West Los Angeles area.

We've been committed from the beginning to maintaining high standards for the living environment for our clients. Clean, roomy, well furnished sober homes are an essential ingredient of that commitment. Residents in our care refer to our facilities as their home, not just a sober house. Each home has ample street parking and ready access to public transportation systems. We provide cable TV as well as laundry facilities on the premises. Friends of Choices is a member of the Los Angeles County Sober Living Coalition, and the Sober Living Network, organizations dedicated to maintaining the highest professional standards in the management of sober living recovery homes.

Our residents have a demonstrated commitment to recovery. Men at Cornerstone House typically having at least six months clean and sober prior to living with us. Stepping Stones will accommodate people with less sobriety time. Many residents have completed residential or outpatient treatment programs. We require residents to remain drug and alcohol free at all times, and residents know they are subject to toxicology tests at any time.

Residents provide and prepare their own food, for which fully equpped kitchens are provided. House rules are designed to maintain a focus on recovery, personal responsibility, honesty and an atmosphere of mutual respect. All residents are expected to attend AA or other 12 step meetings, and to be active in their individual program of recovery. They are required to be employed, be looking for work, or be enrolled full-time in educational or occupational training programs. Many also do volunteer work in their free time.

In addition to providing a safe, supportive sober living environment, Friends of Choices sponsors field trips for residents. Fishing trips to the high Sierras are organized at least once a year. Non-fishermen are taught to fish, and participate in our Trout-A-Thon. Awards are given each year for the Most Fish Caught and for the Largest Fish Caught. Those without gear are provided the necessary fishing tackle and supplies.
